When your #1 obstacle is in the mirror

Jun 10, 2022

What is the biggest obstacle standing in the way of you living a life you truly love?

I speak to hundreds of widowed people each year, and when I ask about their biggest obstacle, a majority of the time the response is “myself.”

It sounds like,

I’m my own worst enemy. Or,

I know what I should do but can’t get myself to do it.

The single most important relationship in your life is with yourself.

And for many people, that relationship is strained at best.

As with any relationship, your relationship with yourself is defined as the thoughts you think about yourself. It’s the way in which you speak to yourself, and the beliefs you hold about yourself and your abilities. It’s the degree to which you love and trust yourself. It’s whether you have kindness and compassion for yourself, especially now, in light of a life shattering loss.

If ever there was a time to be kind, it is now.

Notice the thoughts you think, especially the ones about you. Notice if they are loving or hateful. Listen closely. Do you hear compassion or judgement?

Do you acknowledge yourself for doing hard things? Do you celebrate your wins, big and small?

Do you allow yourself to think about what you really want, now?

I see it daily. Relationships with ourselves either create an incredible future or limit what’s possible and keep us playing small.

Today, eavesdrop on your thoughts about you. Notice what you hear. Consider whether you would speak those words to someone you love.

Then ask, what would love say?

In my coaching program exclusively for widowed people, we get familiar with the relationship with ourselves from a place of curiosity, and from there, we nurture and grow it and create a life worth living.

It’s six months of applying the life changing tools of life coaching through private and group coaching, and the dividends are life-long. If you’re ready to learn how to love yourself, simply click here and we’ll see if it’s a fit.
