Is it okay to feel better?

Feb 09, 2022

If there was a rule book on grief, chapter 1 would be titled, “Is it okay to feel better?”

When our world stops turning, we suddenly have all sorts of beliefs about how life should go. I believed that the length of my misery was an indication of the depth of my love for my husband. Said differently, if I’m happy again, then clearly I didn’t love him enough.

Do you ever think: How can I possibly begin to feel better when he isn’t here? Or, I’ll never be that happy again?

These thoughts are common. But can you imagine another possibility?

What if you find your way forward because of your love? What if his love fuels you, now more than ever?

It’s okay to feel better, and you can do it for the both of you. You can live for two now. What if your goal was to be doubly happy, enough for the two of you?

You can permission yourself to grow into this next version of you, who will know a different version of happy, while honoring him every step of the way.
